Kael (+ Trash)

Last night my raid groupe did kael, now the trash before Kael is the devil. The centurions with their arcane flurry, battlemages with their frostbolt volley and marshals with their whirlwind.

Now I wonder how other groups deal with these mobs, our melee ended up needing resses almost every pull, at least one of us would die for sure.

Between the breaking sheeps and the "you have 0.1 sec to run out" AoE things it seems kinda hard to stay alive.

In the end I told the other melee to ignore the marshals for instance and go for the second mark and burn it down (so we don't have to worry about dying in the whirlwind).

Can I do anything to improve this? I mean melee are dying more then ranged dps which is rather normal (for our group at least) but I'd like to improve on that. (If only to save me a repair bill higher then the tank on Kael nights)

As for the kael fight, we got phase 1 down to routine (its a rather easy phase tbh :p) Phase 2/3 however seems to give us issues, we burn down the weapons with ranged on the bow and melee on the sword first then switch to the mace (with ranged joining in with AoE when the bow goes down).

However it seemed to me the staff and the mace got us a bit huring with the frost bolts and the holy nova AoE.

In the later tries we got to the start of phase 3 with only the shield and the axe left. When phase 3 starts however all hell breaks lose and we wipe in short time. The axe seems to kill the tank and the warlock got conflagated by the elf he's supposed to tank, which ment total wipeout.

Any tips on how to deal with this chaotic transition?|||Don't stop sheeping till they're dead (the trash, that is).

How to deal with weapons depends so much on your raid that I can't advise you there. AoE or Single target - it all works as long as you do it right.

But, put a rogue on Staff to interrupt and stun and one on mace to interrupt and stun.

The tanks need to be quick to pick up their targets in phase3 and healers need to stop intercoursing about and be ready to heal them.

Warlock getting conflagrated does not matter. As long as he has got the staff he'll have the aura to avoid getting disoriented. His healer (who should have the mace) can give him the fire dmg resist buff. Let the lock lifetap once before phase3, so his healer can heal him right before and plant the buff on him. You can easily heal through it.

It's largely a matter of his positioning anyway, but shift happens.

Tell the Axe Tank healer to stop sleeping. One healer can keep that tank alive if he doesn't suck. The axe can be stunned by the way. Most of its damage is fairly low, just the whirlwinds can hurt. Or plant a druid/shaman/priest nearby who assists on both Telonicus and Axe tank.

Biggest advise is to just practise more and don't bring a completely new raid the next time. Try to take special care to keep the important people (tanks/healers) the same as much as possible.

We might've pissed off people in our guild by bringing the same 23-25 people as the attempt(s) before, but to be fair... even bringing 5 people new to the fight is asking for a wipefest for the first couple of attempts.|||This video tells you all you need to know about Kael'Thas (and his trash).

Basically though you need to tank the whirling mobs apart and only with ranged people. We have locks spamming fear on all of the ads whilst they are being killed to prevent their special abilities.

As to the weapons, you should have a rogue on staff and mace for interrupts and have single target dps burn down the mace asap to minimise the heals.|||Melee can go on the trash fine. Just not on the Marshals. Everything else can be sheeped. Chain Sheeping = at most one arcane flurry hit.

Even there you can go in and out between whirlwinds though - he has the same cooldown on it as a Warrior.

We nuked the bow down and then AoE'ed the living hell out of the rest. However, as I said, that's completely dependend on your guild. Long as you get stuff down before the advisors spawn, it doesn't matter. You can leave one weapon of your choice up, just make sure it's not something needed in phase3.|||Thanks for the advice, I'll put myself and another rogue on the staff and mace next time, that should give the healer an easier time.

Seems for sure we have to get the mace and the staff down first (after the bow) so the warlock and his healer can get ready to tank the elf lady, I think that went a bit wrong yesterday. I guess axe and shield are lowest prio to kill? (as in needed for phase 3)

I guess more practice is really what we need, its good that we can get the other bosses down in TK in 1 night so giving us 2 nights (we raid 3 days in the week) to try on kael|||We MD capernian and sanguinar to their respective tanks at the start of P3 to be on the safe side. Make sure the warlocks healer is in range to get the staff buff before capernian spawns. Anyone taking fire damage should also get the mace buff before they actually take damage.

We do staff first and then mace so people that need to be elsewhere get time to loot them and position. We dot up the axe and try to keep it in the aoe without killing too many rogues. Sanguinars tank (our kael tank) gets the shield from another melee.

Phase 3 for us goes like this:

(finish the shield if it's alive and redot the axe)

Ranged+prot warrior on thaladred while melee+hunters kill Sanguinar

Ranged on Capernian and melee+hunters on Telonicus. We put a hunter on thaladred/Capernian if ranged struggle

(we usually run with 3 hunters).

We also have "that guy" and "that other guy" (see Complete guide to T6 endgame!) assigned to getting killed by Thaladred during P3. If "That other guy" is alive for P4 for some reason he will kill himself in a flamestrike.

Make sure any person tanking and important healers have free action pots. A time-stomped tank in p3 will give the advisors enough time to kill a few people.|||Yup. Shield has most hitpoints as well and doesn't hit hard. You really want your tank to have it by phase 4 though.

Axe can safely stay up - a single feral druid tank and a lock/mage/moonkin/whatever assisting in phase 3 (for staff aura and to speed things up a bit) on the axe and telonicus will be enough to get it dead before phase 4.

You can drag the axe into the AoE, but if your tank isn't careful it'll axe some rogues. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle since it'll be dead before phase 4 anyway.|||Quote:

Its sad but I know without even thinking about it who those guys are in our raid groupe :p

Anyways thanks a lot for the comments, I'll be sure to post here about our progress (and hopefully a killshot)|||We actually killed Kael for the first time on the very last day before patch 2.4 :)

I already looked forward to Mount Hyjal, but actually making the attunement is pretty cool too. We struggled for weeks towards fase4, we often made it, but never did anything there. Until tonight, we had everyone up, and got him to 50% without trouble. Then everyone watched the cutscene and forgot to heal our MT and we wiped. Next try, exactly the same, but everyone lived.

Well, except me. I was the guy that died (well one other died just before he went down, but still, I was 'that guy' :D). It was a Phoenix though that killed me, after a Gravity Lapse. I hope that's not something that I can be blamed for ?

Anyway, we made it :D|||What made our first and following kills was the decision to bring one less healer (from 7 to 6) and 1 more dps. Made a world of difference.
