Steam Vault Issues

This weekend me and a set group of 5 were tearing up instances all over the outlands. We were doing some for fun and we also started the kara quest for me and another player. The group consisted of:

70 Epicced DPS Warrior who does insane amounts of damage!

70 Epicced Healer Druid who is by far the best healer I have ever played with

70 Non Epicced DPS/Off Tank Druid

69 Non Epicced but very well geared Prot Tank

Me 69 Non Epicced Beast Master Hunter

We havent hit an instance yet that we have had issues with. Some fights took a little longer then other but we always took them down. The we hit steam vaults. Ohh good lord. I cant remember the bosses name but its the one where he goes to the tank and you have to take down the tank before he becomes enraged. He was getting double enraged and was doing insane amounts of damage.

We tried everything. We switched out the DPS druid and brought in a fully epicced DPS Hunter and nothing we could do would bring the tank down fast enough to stop him from enraging. Twice we had the tank beat and he still enraged.

Are we doing something wrong? Are we missing something? Any suggestions would be great!|||Its pretty simple.

Your tank, starts by dragging the snake close to a fishtank.

When he does the emote, everyone switch to the fishtank. As a tank myself, I try to save a shield slam for it and help them out too.

Just hit the tab target and throw an instant at the fishtank, then follow it up until the fishtank dies. All DPS should be on the fishtank.

Once the fishtank is dead, your tank drags him to a new fishtank.|||That is exactly what we did. We even pulled our biggest damage dealer off the snake totally. He was standing in front of the tank waiting for it to go active. We all switched and it just wouldnt go down fast enough.

We attempted this thing about 6 times before we all got fed up. At least twice he still enraged even though it appeared we got the tank down fast enough. I guess we will need to bring more dps but we were hoping that we were enough to handle this and could just do it in one run. As it stands needing more dps means we will need to run it more then once for all those who need it for the quest.|||Either your dps was too low still, or not everyone was targetting the tank as soon as they were supposed to.|||Yeah, you don't have a lot of time to take down the tank, it's very important that everyone recognize when the tank is targetable and switch immediately. The time we had the most problems with that boss despite having good DPSers, the problems went away when we managed to convince the DPS that finishing the spell in progress was NOT as important as starting DPS on the tank.|||Agree with rest. Normal instances make ample allowance for error and whatever.

Quite simply, you all weren't sufficiently on the ball regarding the tanks. He emotes, target the tank instantly and unload max dps.

Like YamahaGuy, I too save a bit of dps for when he channels (I am a pally so I save a damage judgement for that) in heroics.

'Twice we had the tank beat and he still enraged.' simply means you did not in fact beat the tank before he finished. One or more members of the group quite simply not pulling their weight.|||the tank are all lined up with 4 per side IIRC.... there is an open area that is wider than the rest of the area... pull him counter clock wise around this area

also if your tank is worth his salt in gear or ability...the healer should pull off during the container phase and dps it down as well...the damage he does not in heroic is negligable.

the container has about 10k hit points, so should only take 3-5 seconds to burn through on regular.

your party isnt really ideal as you dont have any ranged besides the hunter...thinking that the problem might be your DPS melee is too far away to make good use of the container dps time|||Quote:

Some keys for your particular group:

Healer Druid:

As a priest healing this on heroic mode, I switch to the tank and drop a couple of smites on it. 4 seconds of not healing the tank doesn't kill him, especially if I time PoM/renew well. Adding that pivotal 2.2k damage to the tank so it drops in time (esp if one of the DPS gets a miss/resist streak) can save the tank though. ;) Get him to drop Tree Form and Moonfire/Wrath it a couple of times. Heck if he is epicced, he can probably heal the whole fight outside of tree form no problem.

You:

Get your pet on it asap. Save an arcane shot and multishot for it, to increase your burst.

DPS Warrior:

Have him save rage and cooldowns for the tank. Meaning he should have enough rage saved up for a bloodthirst or MS on the tank as soon as its targetable. Saving cooldowns is key. Whirlwind too if he can. He can just white dps the boss in between.

DPS Druid:

Same with the Druid, have him save energy, don't drop below 40 energy while on the boss, so when the tanks come up he can drop some of abilities a bit faster, since he doesn't have to wait for energy.

Prot Warrior:

Not sure if this is possible (haven't tried it myself) but since your dps is physical, have the prot warrior drop a couple of devastates on the tanks when they are targetable. Droping the tank's "armor" may increase dps on it quite a bit. Just make sure he is still facing the boss when he does this.|||I tanked Steam Vaults on my druid quite a lot and it was always the same. Nobody targets the tanks.

If you can drum into peoples skulls that they really need to focus on the tank its no trouble.|||If you let him enrage then yes - there's no way in hell you'll live through it.

Your healer won't be able to cope.

Nuke the tanks, as hard as you can, as stated above. If you don't kill the tank in time you don't have enough DPS or they're sleeping. Both can be fixed.
