Moving pretty fast now...Vashj

The guild I'm in got group composition right and began moving fast through SSC. First night Hydross, Lurker and first kill of Tidewalker. Second night, laughably easy time on first kill of Karathress, two close shaves against Leotheras (without ideal group due to dc's and stuff). It's clear we will have Leo in hand when we're fresh and ready.

What broke us through was terrific communication by a highly experienced guest raid leader. Amazing what a difference it makes.

I have a feeling that Vashj is not going to go so fast.

All I can do is my part. What do I need to emphasize in gear? Do I need max survivability, or a blend? BTW waved bye-bye as the first T5 pants tokens I've seen came and went.

And an aside, on inner demons what is the best spell rotation? I got mine down but am unsure about what does the most damage. I tried to balance avoiding damage with killing as fast as possible, to get back on the demon boss while I could.|||Would be helpfull if you could add what class you are :-)

gl on Vashj!|||congrats!

Vashj is a cool fight.....What kept us back the first few tries was managing the transitions.

You need to all stay alive through the first phase, and then be able to toss the cores in the second phase.

Its an easy fight, once you figure out the transitions.|||Mirinda is a mage.

Your gonna get one of two jobs. It changes a lot depending on the roster who showed, so be prepared to do either.

If your put on the oustide stairs during phase 2, your gonna be gunning down elementals. Typically paired with one other DPS and one healer for the section. Dont stand in the middle, middle of a stair because striders can spawn on your head. Watch the tainted timer or listen for 'tainted soon' depending on your raid leaders callouts; drop what your doing and get it down quick.

When you loot it, turn and face your healer but dont throw it yet. Your healer will go to the top of the stairs. Then throw the core. If you "pin" him to the second or third stair, its out of LOS from the center and it gets screwed. I'd reccomend saving ice block for phase 2 in case you get poisioned from the tainted. Depends on what class your healer is. The static charge in phase 1 is easily dealt with, so I wouldnt panic on that one.

Alternatively, some people dont "use" the healer to send the core to the middle, they have the "DPS partner who didnt loot" run to the top. Either way, same chore.

Understand, you miss that tainted, you just put 30 more seconds on the clock, which usually means an additional strider, an additional naga, and 30 seconds more people gotta heal and dps through this phase. And FFS, dont loot the core then die, it makes raid leaders cry inside =(

Elementals are immune to frost; if your a frost mage you'll definetly get a job in the middle.

If your in the middle, your on strider and naga DPS. Most importantly for you, striders. Dont leave the center ring. If your in the strider kiting path you could die. Stay safe (relatively) in the center. You'll be taking lightning damage a lot but should be okay depending on your healing setup.

WE, net the christ out of our striders. And no ones allowed in the kiter path. When a strider spawns, teams call it out "strider 4!" etc. Prime netter moves to intercept it, and nets it down right in the center of the kiting path so the kiter can pick it up. You'll need to give the kiter a few seconds to work some agro on it. Count out a few seconds and help DPS naga's instead, while giving your kiter a head start on hate. Then switch and full out on the strider. You gotta down it before the next ones up.

When the striders inbetween generators on its path, net it down. Some people dont use nets cuz "it will melee" to which I say, dont stand there to begin with. Net net net. The more you net, the more the kiter can agro, and the faster strider dies.

Being in the center, you HAVE to be very situationally aware. STAY CLEAR of new nagas coming to the middle. They cleave. Watch the timer. Pay attention. Sometimes striders get a little too close to the center before being intercepted. Move quickly. Be aware of the striders / nagas around you.

If you see an outside team missed an elemental or too (common while their getting a tainted elemental or passing core) tab to it and help knock it out. They dont have much health.

You could get <tagged> with a core at any time from the people on the outside if their desperate for a nearby player, be prepared to relay it or cash it in.|||Long posts above, but i'll summarize how to kill vashj.

1. Lots of attempts, don't give up.

2. Find someone who can reliably kite striders.

3. Find people who can net the strider.

4. Learn to handle naga's, and don't let them kill your healers.

Look at this map:

|||...your progression! I've seen the Vashj fight...my younger son guild has just finally managed to down her, and she's not an easy one! Not really looking forward to the day when my fearless guild leader decides we're ready for her!

Our next new progression target is Rage Winterchill, after managing to down Leotheras finally, and getting Fathom Lord on our first night attempting it. Sadly, we're doing really well now that two higher progression guilds than we are have imploded, and we're picking up their lost members. Seems like on my server/faction, if you're not totally hardcore (BT/Sunwell) or speak French, there aren't many places to go. I have swallowed guild disagreements all the time because really, my guild is the only game in town at my level. Thankfully, I get along with most of them pretty well... :)

But again, congrats and keep the nose to the grindstone. Most guilds I hear about on Vashj take some pretty serious time to get it right and get her down. She's a real raid leadership/corrodination check... watch the how to series on you tube a few times... I always recommend them. (The middle of the screen large wth is happening text appeals to the idiot in me)|||I am 2/47/12 mage

with 3/3 permafrost intended to enhance the usefulness of rank 1 frostbolt, cone of cold and blizzard.

Dragon's breath and the frost tools make for a lot of kiting options. Throw in the nets and I ought to be untouchable, lawl.

Just wish Blizzard didn't want so bad for my kiting methods to be near useless in raids.|||Grats! Unfortunately I haven't seen past Karathress in SSC. =(

Should make it more specific... I've only see Hydross, Lurker, Tidewalker, and Karathress.|||The phase with the Strider and the naga is going to prove to be a hard one to get under control.

The key is to find a good kiting class who can make the stryders go round the top of the stairs (but far enough from those stairs to not fear one of the core throwers). We deal with the naga's by having them picked up by a tank, who drags it near Vashj and melee takes care of the naga.|||Gah, what happened to my map?

Do we really have to download those pix, put them on photobucket or somewhere and re-link them?

Its not like I was linking their site, or posting the url.

IS there a boss strat page of this web site? If we aren't goin to allow the linking maybe there should be one here.

Come on greens, we're just trying to help people out.
