Heroic UP

[:1]We tried heroic UP last night, and got stuck on Skadi the Ruthless.

We tried several strategies, even those listed on WoWWikki, but were still not able to take him down.

We had a mix of very well geared players (a mage and DK decked out in epics), as well as myself, a moonkin, and a healing druid- all of which were in blues.

Now, I can admit my weaknesses and recognize that I'm not the end all and be all, but I think i tank fairly well. But I found the problem that I could sustain aggro on all the mobs that were coming out.

Has any other warriors found this to be a problem?

Could it have been a lack of gear, and lack of DPS output?

Our DK switched to his prot warrior (who as also fairly well geared), and together we still couldn't manage to take this guy down.

How have others faired? And what are your strategies? I'm feeling like a regular ol' noob...geeesh...I can't even take down a giant and his sissy dragon! *scoff*|||i usualy rushed them when i ran the instance quite a few times with my prot warrior for the sword.

First you have to get to know your trash adds. There is one huge wave coming at the beginning, then there are the pairs that spawn regulary, and then there are the pairs that stand in the corridor which you can pull pair by pair.

My usual tactic was : run in deep from the beginning. I always pulled a lot of the first wave as well as some of the pairs that would stand there. Thunderclap, shockwave, AoE damage. When the first wave is gone, i usualy end up with 2 pairs standing in the corridor, the 3 mob group at the end of the corridor and of course those who spawn regulary.

Then i always take one stationary pair and one fresh spawned pair, 4 mobs at a time. This means that within 2 more spawn cicles, you only have the 3 mob group at the end left.

I take those 3 with the next pair that spawns, so after 3 spawn cicles you have the corridor cleared out.

( We tried to take all the mobs at once by pulling from behind the boss, but this is just too much incoming damage unless you have realy incredible gear )

Once the corridor is cleared, it becomes realy simple. Have some DD's shoot at the dragon, tank the mobs right at the entrance where they spawn, and dont stand in the blue AoE.

As for holding aggro, use your normal aoe tank cicle. Thunder clap, shockwave, cleave ( i hope you have the glyph of cleave ) tab alot. By the time the next pair spawns and runs down the corridor, both thunderclap and shockwave should be off cooldown.

Those are important. Dont worry if sometimes one DD gets a bit agro from one mob that is almost dead anyway. But you have to know when the next wave spawns, how much you will pull with it, and you have to have initial agro on all 4 mobs.|||thank you!

This WAS my second time in UP, and my first on heroic, so i do agree that my knowledge of the number and timing of the mobs was not great!

I'm going to have to try your advice...i too really want that sword!! I think with a bit more organization with our dps (not to mention stressing to them to remain out of the blue mist) that it may have been a bit more successful.

Now, i was tanking the majority of the mobs by the door where they spawn...should I be moving out of the blue mist, or should the healer be able to heal the tank while in the mist...i found if I moved out of that doorway, it was just a mess...yet it was difficult for our healer to keep me alive through the mist.|||Tikki

You have to move out of the mist. Well, clothies do... not sure how hard it's hitting you for. On heroic it hits my priest for 5000 per tick. 4 ticks and I'm dead. The group can't ask the healer to heal everyone through that - they need to heed the first rule of WoW instancing - if it's on the floor and it's not the floor, don't stand in it. Note that the dragon lines up on one side or the other so people can tell where the mist will be coming from before he breathes it out.

2F has the tanking right. You can pause and kill the large pack if you want... after that it's as he says. Once you're down there, the range should stay back and not gather near the harpoon launchers as should the healer. One melee should grab the harpoons and launch them when the "Skadi's in harpoon range" emote happens. You can have 2 melee or even a melee and one ranged do this so you get 2 harpoons on him each time. HOWEVER.... he lands after 5 harpoons (on heroic) and whirlwinds.... so if you have 2 people launch harpoons on the first and second passes, have one of them move back... have the other launch the 5th harpoon and then run back down the hallway a bit and SAY in vent that they're doing this so that the tank knows he's landing. That way tha tank takes the initial WW. The healer needs to know that this is coming. He periodically WWs and people need to stay away from him (and melee needs to run out when he starts this).

How are you guys dying? Is the healer not able to keep up? Are people standing in the mist? Getting caught in WW?
