raids after WoTLK release

there was a thread in this section about certain instances and raids becoming extinct after WoTLK and since i just started playing WoW about a month and a half ago I wanted to get some clarification about that thread.

Does that mean once WoTLK is released they'll remove some of the BC endgame raids? For instance kara, will that totally change from it's current content or will it stay the same. I'm a level 42 right now so I've never had the chance to run Kara or Onxyias lair or anything like that so I would be really disappointed if I never get the chance.

I'm just not sure how all of that works, I'm still trying to understand what all of the s2/s3, t3, t4 etc etc gear is. Speaking of that gear, with the release of WoTLK will the current raid gear be worthless?

I figure that by the time I hit 70 and I'm ready for Kara and Sunwell therr will still be plenty of people at the same level ready to run through them as well.

excuse the noobish question but if someone could explain how all of this will work out the rest of the noobs and I would really appreciate it|||No, they won't remove them but the raids won't bw run much anymore. In general, people choose to level to whatever the max is and the loot from the early 70s instances in Wrath is as good or better than Kara loot... so people will run those, continue to level, and not bother with Kara.

But you will always have folks like yourself (I was one last time, started a month before Burning Crusade) who want to go see the older stuff. Heck, 15 of us went on an old world spree the other night and did Ony, AQ20 and part of AQ40. However, don't expect that people will spend significant time running Kara or any of the Outland instances at 70. People WILL run the early 60s and mid60s stuff for XP and loot and because they'd prefer running an instance vs questing to level. But they will not spend much if any time on the level 68-70 instances.|||The current raid gear will not be wrothless in any way shape or form. Usually what it will allow is for you to level a little faster earlier on, and in some cases never change gear until the early raids.

I know that T3 (Tier 3 raid gear, dropped off of bosses in Naxx1.0) for example could last you until Kara before you had to start changing gear. Chances are, SWP (Sunwell Plateau) gear and the like will probably last untill Naxx2.0, however, this is no reason to go back and try and get that gear as the gear you'll get while leveling in Northrend will be much easier to get.

Chances are, by the time you're 70, most people will be into Northrend looking to do that instead of the old BC instances. Heck, I'm guessing that the earliest quests for Northrend are available at 68, so most people won't even be in Outlands when they're 70.|||Quote:

Key point bolded. There's simply no point in running level 70 instances in Outland for gear when the starting area quests give you gear as good or better (the item budgets are allocated with an eye to Wrath mechanics). Similarly, there's little point in running Kara for gear that will last you into the mid-70s when you can go level up and get comparable gear in content that more people want to run and probably level faster too.

And no, the current raid gear won't be worthless if you have it. But just as people didn't gather T3 in order to level up in TBC, people aren't going to progress to SUnwell in order to get gear. With all of the effort of doing that you could be 80 and raiding. Don't miss the point that the OP is 42 and not in a sunwell guild.|||Apparently T4 quality will last until about 71-74, T5 will last til about 75-79, T6 will be replaced by REALLY good quality level 80 items, and of course T7.|||ok so pretty much, when people like me reach 70 they'll will run it just for the experience (as in never been there, have to try it) of running it and not so much to gear up or even just to grab the BoE items to sell or disenchant.

thanks, thats really what I wanted to know. I want to see the new stuff and all but I still have to experience the older/current stuff. Still not so sure about gear but thats another topic, all I know is s1/2/3 is arena gear and the T1/2/3/ is gear that comes from raids, otherwise i have no idea how to tell whats what|||Quote:

Highly, highly doubtful. People like you who never got to expierience these raids at 70 will probably just continue on leveling to 80. There's no point in trying to pull a group togather when a very large portion of the players (including people like you) will be leveling towards 80. People will want to see the new stuff instead of the old stuff.

Your best bet to see these raids is when you're 80 and your guild is bored. You might be able to talk some people to go and see them, and chances are, they you won't require a full compliment to do it at 80. Hell, you can 3 man Karazhan now with the right gear and people.

"S" gear is short for "Season" so, S1 is season 1, it corresponds to the gear that you could get for arena season 1 (god that has to be at least a year ago now). S2 is Season 2 and so on. Higher number=better gear.

"T" gear is short for "Tier" so, T1 is tier 1 gear. This gear you got in the old world raids of Onyxia and Molten Core. T2 is better then T1 and so on and so forth. Tiers 1 through 3 where from vanilla WoW, tiers 4 through 6 are from the Burning Crusadae. It's used as an indicator and to abbrivate an entire level of gear.

So instead of saying I have one part of my Cataclysm Regalia and two pieces of my Cyclone Regalia (Elemental Shaman's Tier 5 and Tier 4 respectivly) I just say, I have one piece of Tier 5 and two pieces of Tier 4.

S gear is more PvP oriented and T gear is PvE oriented.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/items/armorsets/

This should give you a better idea of the S and T gear.

If you want a rundown on where you get the sets:

Tier 1: Onyxia's Lair and Molten Core 40 man raids.

Tier 2: Onyxia's Lair, Molten Core and Blackwing Lair 40 man raids. (The final bosses to Onyxia and Molten Core dropped a piece of Tier 2)

Tier 2.5: Not an official tier set, term used to define the gear recieved in the Ruins and Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, 20 and 40 man raids respectivly.

Tier 3: Naxxramas 40 man raid. (No longer exists, sometimes called Naxx1.0)

Tier 4: Karazhan, Gruul's Lair and Magtheridan's Lair 10, 25 and 25 man raids.

Tier 5: Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep 25 man raids.

Tier 6: Mount Hyjal, Black Temple and Sunewell Plateau 25 man raids.|||mmm, only one boss in onyxias lair. She drops t2 helm.|||Im pretty sure the level 60 Naxxrammus is completely gone now and replaced by the level 80 Naxx..|||The two main reasons why people have lost their interest for old raids are gear (as already explained above) and also experience points. Why would you spend an entire evening in Karazhan when you can earn even more xp by just doing some simple Northrend quests? It's considered to be a waste of time now, and only the nostalgic ones (or those who want to get certain achievements) care for old raids these days. I occasionally see someone in the Trade Channel trying to get a pug for Kara, and there's always some 2-3 people who laugh at that person for making the attempt.

Yeah, you probably won't get to see any of the old raids until you find a group of people who have hit 80 and are getting a bit bored. Shame, really, but that's how it usually goes.
